Kay Schwieger (Helsingin Yliopisto), Hans Maassen (Radboud Universiteit, Universiteit van Amsterdam).

International Workshop on Statistical Modelling

The 32nd edition of the IWSM will be held in Groningen (Netherlands), hosted by the University of Groningen.

IWSM is one of the major activities of the Statistical Modelling Society, founded with the purpose of promoting and encouraging statistical modelling in its widest sense, involving both academic and professional statisticians and data analysts. Since its first edition, the spirit of the workshop has always been to focus on problems motivated by real life data and on solutions that make novel contributions to the subject.

The atmosphere of the workshop is friendly and supportive, with no parallel sessions, with the aim of stimulating the exchange of ideas and experiences related to statistical modelling. As a sign of positive feedback the IWSMs report many returning participants. Papers focusing on applications with important substantive implications as well as methodological issues are welcome. Submissions by PhD students and young researchers are encouraged.

Salzburg, Austria

NMC 2018
Date: April 3-4, 2018
The next Dutch Mathematical Congress (NMC) will be held in
the two days following Easter 2018.

The upcoming NMC will be a pilot under auspices of the Royal Dutch Mathematical Society (KWG), inspired by the `Deltaplan Wiskunde'. It will be a larger scale two day congress, offering a plenary program with internationally renowned mathematicians.

In addition it aims at hosting many parallel activities of various Dutch mathematical subcommunities, including the research clusters and high school teachers. Minisymposia addressing themes of current interest to the math community are also envisaged. An overnight stay will be included.

5. Vacature

Bayreuth, Germany

In the context of a research project on "An explicit theory of heights for hyperelliptic Jacobians" for which we obtained funding from the German Science

Foundation (DFG), a PhD student position is available for 18 months in my group in Bayreuth, followed by another 18 months with Steffen M?ller (who is

moving to Groningen). Details are available here.

Please alert suitable students looking for a PhD opportunity to this possibility!
