Invitation 114th European Study Group Mathematics with Industry (SWI 2016)
Dates: 25-29 January, 2016
Since 1968, the Study Group Mathematics with Industry has brought together mathematicians and companies. Following the original Oxford model, about 60 mathematicians, ranging from PhD students to full professors, spend a week working on real life problems, presented to them by companies on Monday morning. During four busy days these problems are discussed, dissected, modelled, analysed, and computed, and results are presented on Friday.

You are kindly invited to participate. Check on our
website for more information, and also for registration.
Participation is free of charge. We can reimburse hotel costs for a limited number of participants.

Stochastic Acvity Month: "Probability and Analysis"
Date: March 7th, 2016
The main theme of SAM 2016 is "Variational structures and large deviations for interacting particle systems and partial differential equations".
The following four subthemes will be addressed:

1) Large deviations: gradient flows, polymers and disordered systems.
2) Stochastic homogenisation.
3) Partial differential equations in random environment.
4) Efficient simulation of rare events.
Organizer: Eurandom,

Berlin, Germany

First Announcement: IMAGINARY Conference on Open and Collaborative Communication of Mathematical Research 2016 (IC16)
Dates: July 20-23, 2016

IMAGINARY Conference on Open and Collaborative Communication of Mathematical Research 2016 (IC16) is an interdisciplinary gathering for
mathematicians, communicators and interested professionals to discuss and work together on current issues of communication and knowledge transfer in mathematics.

It will be held in Berlin parallel to ECM7 and just before ICME13.

The program will orbit around five thematic areas that influence math communication:

-    Knowledge transfer and pedagogics of mathematics communications.

-    Community, networking and legal aspects.

-    Advances in 2-d and 3-d visualization of modern mathematics, creation of mathematics exhibits.

-    Agile design and tools for maths communication.

-    Mathematical writing, journalism and media.

The conference will be structured in two parts:
Talks and Workshops.
Invited lectures and short talks will present and explore each of the areas, and workshops will develop some outputs on these topics.
You are invited to submit proposals on either Short talks (15+5 min) or Workshops (11 hours).

Travel support for 20+ participants are available. Childcare will be provided.

website or send us an email.

Darmstadt, Germany

Winter School on Quantum Security
Dates: 25-29 January, 2016
This first CROSSING Winter School on Quantum Security school is aimed mainly at young students and security researchers with interest in quantum cryptography, quantum computing, and quantum complexity theory. As quantum computing slowly but steadily makes its way from the realm of

science fiction to the realm of feasibility, modern cryptographic

technologies face the danger of becoming obsolete, exposing critical

infrastructures to unforeseen consequences.
Good practice in security requires worst-case scenarios to be considered well before they manifest in order to prevent them. For this reason, in the last few years we have witnessed a growing interest in quantum security from academia, private companies, and governmental agencies.
There is unfortunately often a missing link between understanding the quantum theory and designingquantum-proof security solutions. The aim of this winter school is to give an opportunity to fill this gap for many researchers worldwide.

The school will focus on the connection between quantum information

theory and cryptography, with the participation of renowned

international speakers. Addressed topics will include: quantum computing

and quantum algorithms, quantum information and code theory, quantum

complexity theory and query complexity, provable security and reductions

for post-quantum cryptography, quantum key distribution, and other

quantum cryptographic protocols.

This Winter School is organized in cooperation with IACR.

4. Vacature

Univ. of Luxembourg

In the Number Theory group at the University of Luxembourg, we're looking for a

Postdoc in Mathematics (Number Theory, Arithmetic Geometry) (M/F),

starting March 2016 or later. The position is that of a `scientific assistant', by which we understand a person who is becoming an independent researcher, can do independent teaching, and will help to develop and maintain scientific activities of the research group.

The contract will be initially for 2 years, but can be extended up to 5 years.

The working conditions (including the salary) are excellent and the teaching duty is relatively light: 2-4 hours per week.

Candidates should apply online until 31/1/2016 here .

We'll be happy to answer any questions about the positions.
Please spread the word. Many thanks!

The letters of recommendation should be sent by email to me Gabor Wiese.
