Crainic) These lectures will introduce Lie groupoids and their associated Lie algebroids. Examples coming from group actions and foliations will be discussed. Period: January 24-28, 2000. Location: TU Delft, Faculty of Information Technology and Systems. Synopsis: This is Part I of three parts of a postgraduate course in computational fluid dynamics. This course is organized by the J.M.Burgers Center, the national research school in fluid dynamics. The course is aimed at graduate students, but other interested persons are welcome as well. The course consists of lectures and exercises using computers. Lecture notes are made available to the participants. The following subjects will be treated in Part I: 1. The basic equations of fluid dynamics 2. Analytical aspects of partial differential equations 3. Qualitative aspects of the convection-diffusion equation, boundary layers and maximum principles. 4. More information about the graduate courses and minicourses at the site www.win.tue.nl/math/eidma ACM Agenda des Conferences Mathematiques Dear Fellows Presidents and Friends, This message is to announce a French initiative on the occasion of the Year 2000 of Mathematics. It is a web system to collect information on all conferences and Seminar announcements in all branches of mathematics and which anyone with a web access can query in a highly customizable fashion. A Mathematical lecture calendar and locator, in some sense. At present, its name is "Agenda des Conferences Mathematiques", ACM in short. Its web address is It was created by Stephane Cordier (a Maitre de Conferences at the University of Paris 6 and an active member of the SMAI), has been functioning in France since February 1998 and presently indexes some 100 ongoing Seminar series. Its set up is being financially supported by a small grant from the French Ministry of Research, with the understanding that it should be made freely available everywhere. From its inception, it has enjoyed the full support of the SMF (Societe' Mathematique de France) and the SMAI (Societe' de Mathematiques Appliquees et Industrielles). The European Mathematical Society has recently been contacted via its president Rolf Jeltsch concerning this initiative and wholeheartedly supports it. This is an evolving project and it is the hope of our Societies that by being a tool for the whole Mathematical community, Europe-wide and World-wide, it can evolve to satisfy the needs of all. The purpose of this message is to urge you to inform all the members of your Societies of this new service, to suggest that they use it as often as they need it, and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, that you ask the organizers of meetings and seminars among them to contribute to ACM by using the procedure which allows it to extract the relevant information for its database. The purpose of this message is also to inform all of you that the whole concept, and software is a gift of the French Mathematical Societies and community to the its fellows mathematicians around the world. But for ACM to succeed, the contribution of everyone is now needed, and most notably our European fellow Societies. One final note: ACM does not intend to be in competition with any other site which proposes similar information. On the contrary, it is willing to incorporate all information which resides on these sites, with direct links to them. An example of such cooperation is with AMCA (Atlas Mathematical Conference Abstracts). It is our sincere belief that the ACM concept can play an outstanding role in fostering the sense of a worldwide Mathematical community. At the dawn of the third millennium, Mathematics can again be an example to all other disciplines on that front. Een andere kerntaak is het uitvoeren van onderzoek op het gebied van de wiskundige analyse en haar toepassingen.
