K.I Aardal, hoogleraar optimalisering, Delft Institute of Applied Mathematics. ************************************************************************* 3. Promoties TUE 5-11 M.O. Heydenreich, A lace-expansion analysis of random spatial models, promotor: prof.dr. R.W. van der Hofstad, Auditorium, Collegezaal 4, 16 u. ************************************************************************* 4. Vacatures TUD The following two positions are available in the Optimization group at Delft Institute for Applied Mathematics: 1 PhD student in mixed integer optimization 1 tenure track assistant professor and the following position is available in the Analysis group: 1 tenured assistant/associate professor (depending on the qualifications of the candidate) * PhD student in mixed integer optimization Department/faculty: Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science Level: Master degree Working hours: Maximum of 38 hours per week (1 FTE) Contract: Four years Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science The faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) is known world wide for its high academic quality and social relevance of its research programs. The faculty's excellent facilities accentuate its international position in teaching and research. The faculty offers an interdisciplinary setting for its 500 employees, 350 PhD students and 1700 undergraduates. Together they work on a broad range of technical innovations in the fields of sustainable energy, telecommunications, microelectronics, embedded systems, computer and software engineering, interactive multimedia and applied mathematics. Job description: The optimization group is seeking a PhD student for the topic "Mixed- integer optimization: Unification of polyhedral combinatorics and lattice basis reduction algorithms" financed by The Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). Brief project description: Algorithms based on polyhedral knowledge are used in all academic and commercial software. When the variables are allowed to take integer values other than just 0 and 1, and when continuous variables are added in addition, much less is understood. An algorithm by H.W. Lenstra answered many questions from a theoretical viewpoint. Until recently this algorithm seemed to have less practical value. The main goal of this project is to translate the knowledge gained by reformulating the problem as Lenstra does into polyhedral information. This should lead to better understanding and facilitate the resolution of the problems, resulting in a significant practical impact. Requirements: The candidate should have a Masters Degree in Mathematics, preferably with some knowledge of optimization. The successful candidate will be employed by Delft University of Technology for a fixed period of 4 years within which he/she is expected to write a doctoral thesis. TU Delft offers an attractive benefits package, including a flexible work week, free high-speed Internet access from home, and the option of assembling a customized compensation and benefits package (the 'IKA'). Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. When applying for this position, make sure to mention vacancy number EWI2008-38. http://www.vacaturesindelft.nl/vacature.php?id=1311&lang=eng * Assistant/Associate Professor (two positions) Department/faculty: Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science Level: PhD Working hours: Maximum of 38 hours per week (1 FTE) Contract: Tenure-track, initial 2-year contract Job description: The optimization group is seeking two new members for the following positions: 1) a full-time, tenured position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level depending on experience, and 2) a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor. The successful candidate for the tenured position will have demonstrated excellence in both teaching and research, and should also have experience with guiding master and PhD students. The candidate will participate in teaching at both the bachelor and master levels, supervise bachelor and master projects, conduct research in optimization, and acquire and manage externally funded research projects. The successful candidate for the tenure-track position will have demonstrated excellence in research and preferably some teaching experience, and will participate in both research and teaching activities in the group. The candidate will also participate in acquiring externally funded projects. The area of research for both positions can be any area of optimization. Requirements: Candidates for the tenured position should have an established record of quality research and teaching, while candidates for the tenure-track position should show promise and the potential to be a leading research scholar. Both candidates should have a PhD degree in Mathematics or Computer Science or a related discipline. TU Delft sets specific requirements for the English competency of the teaching staff. TU Delft offers training to improve English competency.
