Mededeling van het KWG-bestuur ============================== Philips Wiskunde-prijs voor Promovendi: 2e oproep voor aanmeldingen Dit jaar zal, bij voldoende belangstelling, voor de derde keer de Philips Wiskunde-prijs voor promovendi worden toegekend, en wel tijdens het 44e Nederlands Mathematisch Congres, dat onderdeel is van het Fifth European Congress of Mathematics in de RAI in Amsterdam (14-18 juli 2008, zie www.5ecm.nl). Tijdens een speciaal mini-symposium op 17 juli 2008 krijgen promovendi die hun onderzoek uitvoeren aan een Nederlandse onderzoekinstelling gedurende ongeveer 15 minuten de gelegenheid om over hun werk te vertellen. Uit de verschillende voordrachten zal een deskundige jury, bestaande uit Frans Oort (voorzitter), Floris Takens en Willem van Zwet de in haar ogen beste selecteren. Deze wordt beloond met een geldprijs en een wisselbokaal, ontworpen door Joke Bontenbal. Eerdere winnaars van deze prijs zijn Johan Bosman (2007) en Joost Batenburg (2006). Een belangrijk criterium voor de toekenning van de prijs is dat de voordracht begrijpelijk moet zijn voor een algemeen wiskundig publiek. De prijs zal aan het eind van de dag aan de winnaar worden uitgereikt door Evgeny Verbitskiy, Senior Scientist bij Philips Research. U kunt zich voor deze competitie opgeven door uiterlijk 16 mei 2008 per email een korte samenvatting van maximaal 1 pagina in te sturen aan e.koelink@math.ru.nl . De samenvatting en voordracht mogen naar keuze in het Nederlands of in het Engels gegeven worden. Het indienen van een samenvatting is geen garantie dat u ook een voordracht in het promovendi-symposium kunt houden.
