The Holst Memorial Lecture 2007 is organized by Philips Research and the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (TU/e). This year's Lecture will be given by prof.dr. H.A. van der Vorst (UU). Henk van der Vorst is emeritus professor in applied mathematics at the Universiteit Utrecht. He has made important contributions to algorithms for solving large sparse problems, and thereby enabled computational science to make big steps forward. These algorithms are used in a wide variety of industrial problems: oil reservoir simulation, nuclear energy, aerospace industry, seismology, electronics industry, MRI, acoustics. He also contributed new algorithms for parallel computing: truncated Neumann series preconditioning, incomplete twisted factorizations, and the so-called 'vdv' ordering. Holst Symposium 'Computational Science' Computational Science is a rapidly growing multidisciplinary field using advanced computing capabilities to understand and solve complex problems of Society and Industry in the 21st century. It takes scientific contributions across many disciplines together to perform computational tasks.
