Vacature UU University Medical Centre Utrecht Full Professor of Biostatistics Working environment Research at University Medical Centre Utrecht (UMCU) focuses on seven programs: neurosciences, cardiovascular sciences, immunology and infectious diseases, oncology, biomedical genetics, biomedical image sciences and clinical epidemiology (www.umcutrecht.nl/research). The UMCU closely collaborates with Utrecht University within the Academic Biomedical Centre (www.abc.uu.nl) which offers a unique life-science environment that combines the expertise of various faculties (such as the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Faculty of Sciences) and research institutes. The Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care is part of the UMCU. It carries out scientific research, provides education, and offers expertise and facilities in the area of clinical health sciences including clinical epidemiology (www.juliuscenter.nl). Within the ABC, the Centre for Biostatistics was established in 1990 in order to centralize the teaching and consultancy in biostatistics for several of its members (medicine, veterinary medicine, biology, pharmaceutical sciences). Recent developments show the need for the appointment of a full professor of Biostatistics in an environment which stimulates scientific developments at the forefront of quantitative methodological biology, epidemiology and statistics and which offers unique possibilities for high-profile interdisciplinary collaboration. Your tasks: leading the existing group of biostatisticians of Utrecht University (approximately 10 fte); guiding and stimulating the research in biostatistics in close relation to the research themes within the ABC and other faculties; guiding and developing educational programs in (applied) statistics for all faculties, as well as for the ABC prestige master Epidemiology; supporting and extending the consultancy role of the group for various faculties of the university. The professorship will be based at the UMC Utrecht, and embedded in the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care. Requirements: as a candidate you have: a university degree in statistics and a PhD in a biostatistical subject; a clear preference for modern biostatistical advances in your own research and development; a clear affinity with epidemiological problems and interest in genetical statistics; an excellent international scientific reputation; experience in shaping and teaching statistical courses and a clear vision concerning applied biostatistical education; extensive experience in collaborating with biomedical researchers and specialists; experience in managing an academic group, good communication skills; recent and proven track record of success in obtaining external funding.
