Wintersymposium Koninklijk Wiskundig Genootschap Thema: Wiskunde in `Natuur, Leven en Technologie' Datum/lokatie: 6 januari, 2007; Aula van het Academiegebouw, Utrecht Tijdens het jaarlijkse wintersymposium van het KWG zullen drie sprekers aandacht besteden aan de rol van wiskunde in `Natuur, Leven en Technologie'. Dit laatste is de naam van het nieuwe betavak (http://www.betavak-nlt.nl/). Het vak heeft als doel om leerlingen op een uitdagende manier kennis te laten maken met nieuwe ontwikkelingen in, maar vooral ook op de grensvlakken van de natuurwetenschappelijke vakken, wiskunde en fysische geografie. Jurrien Bijhold van het Nederlands Forensisch Instituut neemt de rol van wiskunde bij forensisch onderzoek onder de loupe. Elwin Savelsbergh, werkzaam aan het Centrum voor Didactiek van Wiskunde en Natuurwetenschappen van de Universiteit Utrecht, gaat in op de rol van computer ondersteunend modelleren in het onderwijs. Ben ten Voorde van het VU Medisch Centrum Amsterdam duikt in de wiskunde van de diagnostische beeldvorming in de gezondheidszorg. Het symposium wordt gehouden in het Academiegebouw van de Universiteit Utrecht. Het programma start om 10.00 uur en eindigt ca. 14.45 uur.
