Vacatures UvA Post-doc position in pure mathematics and mathematical physics Post-doc position in dynamical systems and numerical analysis At the Korteweg-de Vries Institute for Mathematics two post-doc positions are available with the following tasks: - contributing to the research of the relevant group - participating in the research activities (such as seminars) of the group - teaching courses and tutorials at the Bachelor's level The successful candidates will be expected to cooperate in an internationally competitive research programme at the Institute and should meet the following requirements: - PhD in Mathematics - evidence of very good research capacities For teaching at the Bachelor's level, we require: - didactic qualities and enthousiasm for teaching - sufficient proficiency of the Dutch language to teach mathematics For more information, contact prof. J.J.O.O. Wiegerinck, tel. +31 20 525 5097, email: janwieg@science.uva.nl, or see: http://www.english.uva.nl/news/uva_vacancies.cfm RUG 1. Tenure-track position for assistant professor in Dynamical Systems 2. Tenure-track position for assistant professor in Applied Analysis The vacant positions are in the research units Dynamical Systems and Applied Analysis, which participate in the NWO-cluster `Nonlinear Dynamics of Natural Systems'. For further information see http://www.ndns.nl/open-positions, or contact Prof.dr. H.W. Broer (Dynamical Systems), broer@math.rug.nl or Prof.dr. A.J. van der Schaft (Applied Analysis), a.j.van.der.schaft@math.rug.nl UT Two PhD positions in STW project TWI 7216: Extreme Surface Waves, models, simulations and experiments In this project there are vacancies for two PhD positions (each of four years) in the group Applied Analysis & Mathematical Physics (AAMP) of the University of Twente; at a later stage the project will also employ one post-doc position for two years. The research on `extreme waves' (also called rogue or freak waves) deals with the poorly understood phenomenon that waves on the surface of the sea or ocean can suddenly and locally deform into waves of very large waveheight. Waves that are much larger than can be expected from the relatively low surrounding waves (the background), and with an occurrence that is much higher than according to statistical theories can be expected. Such waves can be dangerous for ships and (oil-) platforms. The project will combine theoretical modelling and analysis with numerical simulations and with experiments that will be conducted in a large basin of MARIN (the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands, Wageningen, www.marin.nl). Emphasis will be on multi-directional waves, based on and extending the knowledge obtained in the group from previous (STW) projects. (Brenny) van Groesen, phone: +31 53 489 3413 (498 4217), email: groesen@math.utwente.nl. ************************************************************************* (einde mededelingen)
