Colleges, voordrachtenseries, cursussen e.d. Lorentz Center, Leiden Stieltjesweek `Rings of low rank' Date `Stieltjesweek' June 6-9, 2006; Workshop June 12-16, 2006; Lorentz Center, Leiden For all Masters and PhD students in mathematics in the Netherlands the Stieltjes Institute organizes tutorial workshops in the Lorentz Center in Leiden. This year's topic is the highly original work of the young mathematician Manjul Bhargava (Princeton). Much of this work is quite elementary, including striking generalizations of results of Gauss, which makes the topic particularly suitable for a student audience. Bhargava himself is one of the three lecturers; the other two are Juergen Klueners (Kassel) and Karim Belabas (Bordeaux). The `Stieltjesweek' will prepare students for the Workshop on the same topic in the following week that will also include Jean-Pierre Serre (Paris), Dick Gross (Harvard), Kiran Kedlaya (MIT) and David Wright (Oklahoma) as participants. We still have ample space at the `Stieltjesweek', and some space at the workshop. Please contact Bart de Smit (desmit@math.leidenuniv.nl) if you are interested in attending. For more information on the `Stieltjesweek' see: http://www.math.leidenuniv.nl/~desmit/ic/20060606.html for the Workshop: http://www.lc.leidenuniv.nl/lc/web/2006/208/info.php3?wsid=208 ************************************************************************ (einde mededelingen)
