Lorenz van het MIT voor zijn fundamentele werk in de nietlineaire dynamica en de meteorologie. De uitreiking vindt plaats op het KNMI, de Bilt, door de voorzitter van de KNAW, afd. natuurkunde. Het programma duurt van 13.30-17.00 uur en bevat behalve de uitreiking en een dankwoord van de recipient, voordrachten van 14.00-16.00 uur door achtereenvolgens: F. Verhulst (UU), J.D. Cursus Regressie-analyse Datum/plaats: 3, 10, 17 en 24 maart 2004, voor- en namiddag; Eindhoven, Multimediapaviljoen Wanneer een bepaalde grootheid gezien kan worden als een continue functie van een of meer andere grootheden, ligt het voor de hand om lokaal een lineair verband te veronderstellen. Uit waarnemingsresultaten (met onzekerheden) kunnen dan de coefficienten van dit lineaire verband geschat worden. Deze techniek, de bijbehorende meerdimensionale uitbreidingen en de beschouwingen die de onzekerheid in de berekende coefficienten karakteriseren, zijn het terrein van de regressieanalyse. Doel en opzet: De cursus verschaft u kennis en vaardigheid over de toepassing van regressie-analyse met behulp van programmatuur. Na afloop van de cursus bent u in staat de behandelde technieken zelfstandig in uw eigen werkomgeving toe te passen. De behandeling van de stof wordt afgewisseld met instructies, waarbij vooral wordt gewerkt met het programma-pakket Statgraphics.
